Route
- South end: take Gulf of Mexico Dr (SR-789) over New Pass to St. Armands Circle and the John Ringling Causeway.
- Continue to US-41, then Fruitville Rd east to US-301 north.
- North end: cross Longboat Pass to Bradenton Beach, then Cortez Rd or Manatee Ave east to US-301 south.
The island is split between Manatee County (north) and Sarasota County (south). Either way, you can avoid downtown with the route that fits your end of the key.

Which route should I take from Longboat Key?
From the south end, take the John Ringling Causeway through St. Armands and come up US-301 (about 25 minutes). From the north end, crossing Longboat Pass and heading east on Cortez Rd or Manatee Ave to US-301 is often quicker (30–35 minutes).
My car sits for months. Is a coating still worth it?
